Parinirvana Day Celebrated on 15th February     In today’s modern world, the subject of death is often considered taboo and morbid. But in Buddhism, reflecting on death is seen as an essential way to...

Hello – welcome to the Bury St Edmunds Buddhist Group.

Our aim is to offer Buddhist tools and resources to help you with meditation and mindfulness. Everyone is welcome to our weekly meeting including those who have never meditated before. We meet every Wednesday at 7.15pm at the Quaker Friends meeting house opposite the Job Centre on St Andrew’s Street North.

We also hold regular chanting and puja evenings at our beautiful local retreat centre, Vajrasana. If you’re an outdoorsy type, you might enjoy coming along to one of our gardening days.

In response to government instruction we have decided to suspend the Wednesday night Buddhist classes at the Friends’ Meeting House and any planned events at Vajrasana until further notice. You can find full details here.

As much as we would love to be in a space all together again, the safety of you and our team is the number one priority. With current social distancing measures and the necessity for face masks we don’t think the time to come back is just yet. Hopefully as things get back to normal we will start back at the Quaker Meeting House — watch this space.

We are delighted that everyone has been so supportive of the Bury Buddhist Centre throughout the last few months and we hope you’ve been enjoying our talks. We are currently focusing on putting together a series of videos introducing how to go deeper with meditation.

In the meantime — our friends at Ipswich Buddhist Centre are offering regular classes on Zoom for people of all abilities. The London Buddhist Centre has lots of materials to get stuck into, and the gang at Windhorse publications are offering a free weekly eBook. Plenty to keep you busy!

We look forward to seeing you in the future.
